When homeowners learn that soft washing contains bleach, they often become concerned. After all, bleach is known for being harsh. However, professional soft washing is one of the safest and most effective ways to clean exterior surfaces—when done right.

Why Soft Washing Is Safe Despite Its Use of Bleach

What Makes Soft Washing Safe?

While soft washing does use bleach, it also uses a tried-and-true method for exceptional results. Unlike pressure washing, which blasts surfaces with force, soft washing uses low-pressure water in conjunction with a carefully diluted cleaning solution. That solution often contains sodium hypochlorite—the active ingredient in household bleach—as well as surfactants, which help break down dirt, mold, algae, and mildew at their roots. Soft washing targets growth at the microscopic level, not just cleaning but also preventing regrowth for longer-lasting results.

Dilution and technique are also factors that contribute to safety. Soft washing uses a far lower dosage of bleach than the jug you might keep under your sink. Our team has the training and knowledge to create a solution that is strong enough to disinfect organic growth while being gentle enough not to damage siding, shingles, or landscaping. In reality, when used properly and thoroughly rinsed, the solution is less concentrated than pool water.

What About My Plants?

We have a plan, and we share that plan with each of our customers. For instance, we recommend pre-wetting your plants before your soft washing appointment to avoid dehydration and oxidation. Once we get there, we will do the same. Then, we repeat the process both during and after we finish our task, using a product called Plant Wash.

While the mention of bleach may raise concerns, the science and practice of soft washing make it a safe, environmentally friendly, and very effective cleaning procedure for both households and businesses.
